IFMGA Mountain Guide

drew-daly-800-800

While growing up in Vail, Colorado, I fell in love with the mountains at an early age. As a kid I spent the weekends skiing and snowboarding on the slopes or backpacking through the surrounding mountain ranges with my dad. In high school I passed time exploring the local crags learning how to rock climb with friends. After graduating from University of Denver in 2008, I moved to Sun Valley, Idaho, the place I currently call home. In Idaho I found a quiet community with surrounding mountain ranges that offer unlimited opportunities and potential.

My mountain guiding career began in the summer of 2007 while working as an intern for Sawtooth Mountain Guides in Stanley, Idaho. In 2009 I enrolled in my first American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) course, which spurred a six-year mission to become a fully certified IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations) mountain guide. In September of 2015 I became one of just barely a hundred Americans to have completed this international certification.

I now spend my summers guiding rock climbing in the mountains of Idaho and around the west. My winters are spent guiding backcountry and helicopter skiing and working on the Sun Valley Ski Patrol. The spring and fall have me traveling the world guiding, climbing and skiing in such places as Alaska, New Zealand and the European Alps.

I truly enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience in the mountains with my guests. Whether you’re interested in planning a trip to Idaho or an international destination I would love to be a part of the process.

Rock Climbing

Whether you’ve never rock climbed in your life or your looking to take your climbing to the next level on long, multi-pitch routes, I can help you achieve your goals. The City of Rocks in southern Idaho has some of the best beginner and intermediate rock climbing terrain in the country as well as some classic “hard-man” lines. The ranges around Sun Valley and Stanley offer seldom climbed but classic alpine rock routes. Some of my other favorite rock climbing destinations include Red Rocks, Nevada, Boulder, Colorado and Briançon, France.

Alpine Climbing

Alpine Climbing is an extremely diverse discipline including everything from vertical ice and mixed climbing to mountaineering on glaciated volcanoes to alpine rock climbing in the vast European Alps. In general, the end goal of alpine climbing is to reach a summit. If you enjoy the feeling of standing on top of the world, then alpine climbing is probably right up your alley. I have spent significant time traveling the world looking for my next summit and would love to help you find yours. Some of my alpine climbing destinations include the Cascades, Canadian Rockies, and the European and New Zealand Alps.

Ski Touring

Skiing is quite possibly the most fun and efficient human powered sport on earth! I love the peacefulness of skinning through the wilderness in deep powder in search of that perfect run. Just as good are those multi-day adventures touring through the European Alps supported by the extensive hut systems. My winter and spring are dedicated to skiing and I always look forward to showing people the goods at home and abroad. More recently, I have been specializing in ski touring trips to the European Alps, but my other destinations include Alaska and Canada. Whatever your dream ski touring trip is, I’m here to help make it happen!
